An Overview of Organisational Health

I really enjoyed presenting on organisational health (OH) to Catena Lincolnshire at the Louth Lunch last week. I made the case for the business benefits of OH, including improved finances, effective resource allocation, clarity, lower staff turnover, minimal politics, and highly engaged and resilient staff.

I also explained how OH is a source of sustainable competitive advantage (because it is both so powerful and so rare!) and how businesses can develop it via these 5 steps:

1. Develop leader-managers.

2. Create consistently high-performing teams (especially the board/senior management team).

3. Create clarity around mission, vision, values, strategy and culture.

4. Boost effective communications across the business (sometimes that means less, not more).

5. Embed clarity, e.g., recruit and promote to stated values and vision.

OH is not rocket science, but it does require discipline and determination. However, the rewards are well worth the effort!
